Ayurvedic Herbal Syrups

Herbal syrups are generally prepared by combining concentrated herbal concoction with herbal plants for medicinal usage.

It is mostly combined with either honey or sugar syrup based. By using honey and sugar base it helps in increasing the shelf life of the concoction and maintains its usage for a longer time.

By using this combination it helps widely in soothing the inflamed food pipe, sore throat, and highly beneficial in respiratory-related ailments. By adding this sugar-based increase the palatability of persons especially with children.
The proportions used in herbal syrup are mostly 2:1 - 2 parts of herbal dried powder or herbal extract that with one proportion of honey.

But herbal syrups made for children are made in a ratio of 1:1 to increase shelf life. Any herbs can be used for syrup but it is formulated based on the disease and its properties to cure.

The most commonly used herbs are Amla, dried ginger, astragalus, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, licorice. These herbs are predominantly found in most of the syrup in spite of diseases focused.
Herbal syrup longevity differs with which base we formulate it. Normally honey-based can have a shelf life for about 3 months and sugar-based can have a shelf life for 6 months.
